You'll be responsible for:
- Operating heavy equipment, including backhoe, loader, skip loader, skid steer, dump truck, and street sweeper, to support roadway maintenance.
- Maintaining asphalt, concrete, and roadway markings in the City of Rancho Cucamonga.
- Aiding in leading a crew of highly motivated team members to complete daily assignments safely and efficiently.
- Helping drive daily work productivity and performance.
- Tracking and updating daily work activities.
- Performing preventative maintenance and minor field adjustments on assigned equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Responding to and taking the lead in emergencies, including windstorms and rain events.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in performing asphalt, concrete and roadway marking maintenance.
Education And/or Experience
Graduation from high school or equivalent and one year of experience in light or heavy equipment operation or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of the mechanical operation of the assigned power-driven equipment;
- Occupational hazards and routine safety precautions;
- Code and regulations governing operation of equipment in City streets;
- MUTCD standards for traffic markings and installations;
- Handling procedures for hazardous materials;
- Storm drain inspection techniques.
- Ability to operate heavy, power-driven equipment safely and efficiently;
- Learn and follow street/alley routes;
- Detect the need for major mechanical maintenance;
- Perform routine adjustments and maintenance on equipment used;
- Use and care of hand tools in making minor adjustments and performing routine maintenance of the assigned equipment;
- Prepare routine records;
- Work effectively in the absence of supervision;
- Follow verbal and written instructions;
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Special Requirements
- Possession of or ability to obtain a Commercial Motor Vehicle "Class A" Driver's license and a satisfactory completion of the probationary period.
- May participate in leading field crews during normal business hours, emergency situations and/or adverse weather conditions.
Recruitment Timeline
First Interviews: In-person at City Hall during the week of July 27th
Second Interviews: Held in person at the Public Works Yard.
