Essential Functions
- Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the business.
- Varies by department: Operates backhoes, farm tractors, farming equipment, rubber-tired loaders, mowers, and/or other equipment used in construction, and/or 9 Cy vacuum/jet wash trucks in the cleaning, maintenance.
- Conducts slope excavations and understands line standards required by OSHA for employee entry into trenches where line excavation is required.
- Interprets markings of utilities as color-coded according to Tennessee One Call.
- Varies by department: Conducts equipment maintenance daily; greasing, belt adjustment, fluid levels, and system flushing.
- Operates various hand tools including jackhammers, pavement breakers, picks, shovels, various wrenches, air compressors, weed eaters, rodding machines, boring machines, and various types of pumps.
- Varies by department: Maintains and repairs root saws and jet wash truck nozzles.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work area.
- Complies with all OSHA standards.
- Performs other work as assigned.
Additional Functions By Department
- Operates - single and dual axle dump trucks, street sweepers, leaf truck, bucket trucks, and knuckle boom, chain saws and pole saws.
- Conducts mechanical excavating in proximity, above, underneath, and beside existing utilities including high voltage electrical, high-pressure gas lines, and infrastructure without causing damage to other utilities or structures.
- Participates in on-call and standby duties which involves working alone or with co-workers at night, weekends, and holidays.
- Works regardless of weather conditions, responds to natural disasters.
Physical Demands
- Performs work that involves walking or standing all the time and completes tasks that require color perception.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Requires a High School diploma or equivalent GED.
Special Certifications And Licenses: Requires a valid Class B Commercial driver's license (CDL) and experience operating a Class B Commercial Vehicle. Vacuum/Jet Wash truck operators must have tanker (N) endorsement.
