About the role

TxDOT's Atlanta District is looking for an Equipment Mechanic I or II based in our Marshall Maintenance Section in Marshall, TX.

Responsibilities

  • Adjusts brakes and replaces brake system parts to include air brake and anti-locking systems.
  • Analyzes and interprets computerized diagnostic equipment information.
  • Checks lighting and wiring mechanisms to ensure proper functioning of headlights, spotlights, tail lights, and parking lights.
  • Completes repair order paperwork and accurately enters data into fleet information management system.
  • Maintains and repairs heavy equipment used in construction and maintenance of highways/bridges.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on motor vehicles/equipment; as required, moves items related to these activities.
  • Prepares vehicles for use by checking for required safety features such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and mobile radios.
  • Troubleshoots, tests, and repairs electrical systems, electronic ignitions, and fuel injection systems.
  • Uses computerized diagnostic analyzer systems and performs complex diagnostic work on vehicles/equipment.
  • Performs quality assurance/analysis on repaired vehicles and equipment.

Requirements

  • Equipment Mechanic I: Experience: 2 years in automotive, medium/heavy truck, or construction equipment diagnostics and repair.
  • Equipment Mechanic II: Experience: 4 years in automotive, medium/heavy truck, or construction equipment diagnostics and repair.

Qualifications

  • Equipment Mechanic I: Associate's degree in Automotive and/or Diesel Technology may substitute for 2 year's experience.
  • Equipment Mechanic II: Associate's degree in Automotive and/or Diesel Technology may substitute for 2 year's experience.
  • Certificates of course completion from a Technical Training Institute in Automotive and Diesel Technology may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.

Skills

  • Knowledge of: Troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating electronic and mechanical components and subsystems.
  • Knowledge of: Automatic and manual shift transmission repair.
  • Skill in: Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment and mechanical devices of the trade.
  • Skill in: Mechanical repair procedures for diesel, gasoline, CNG and LPG engines.
  • Skill in: Diagnosing problems and repairing equipment to include electronic and mechanical components and subsystems according to defined codes and specifications.
  • Skill in: Using Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Pay

  • Equipment Mechanic I: $40,918 - $61,130 annually
  • Equipment Mechanic II: $45,521 - $71,055 annually
