Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II

About the role

The City of San José, the Capital of Silicon Valley, is seeking an Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II (EMA I/II) to join the Fleet Management Division within the Public Works Department. The EMA I/II is responsible for managing the City’s fleet, including comprehensive inspections, maintenance, repair, acquisition, and disposal of vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Scheduling, servicing, inspections, and repairs on City vehicles and equipment.
• Ordering, receiving, and issuing automotive, truck, and equipment parts.
• Researching and identifying parts for issue, stocking and verifying inventories, and utilizing the fleet database to manage inventories.

Requirements

• Equipment Mechanic Assistant I (EMA I): Two (2) years of experience in maintenance of automotive equipment.
• Equipment Mechanic Assistant II (EMA II): Four (4) years of experience in equipment mechanical assistance of automotive equipment, including two (2) years increasingly responsible experience.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma, GED, or California Proficiency Certificate.
• Licensing: Valid California Driver's License.
• Background Investigation: Completion of a Class C Background packet.

Benefits

The City of San José offers a competitive salary range for the Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II classification. The salary range is determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Pay

Equipment Mechanic Assistant I: $61,235.20 - $74,422.40
Equipment Mechanic Assistant II: $67,225.60 - $81,640.00

Schedule

The EMA I/II position may require working various shift hours and overtime.
