Equipment Mechanic 2 - Facilities Operations
About the role
Under general supervision, this position maintains, repairs, and modifies fleet equipment and golf carts, including a variety of light, medium, and heavy automotive and maintenance equipment, as well as specialized mechanical equipment and machinery such as landscape/grounds equipment, computerized testing equipment, and diesel-fueled electric power generators.
Additional responsibilities include evaluating campus vehicle and equipment program needs for capital planning and budgeting, providing vendor supervision and contractor oversight as assigned, and maintaining necessary records and preparing required reports. The role ensures all equipment is maintained and operates safely.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications include one of the following:
- Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship program;
- Completion of the Equipment Mechanic-In-Training program in Nevada State service;
- One (1) year of experience as an Equipment Mechanic I in Nevada State service;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position affects public safety, and candidates must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Schedule
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. This schedule is subject to change based on organizational needs.
Pay
Compensation is Grade 31 (Step 01, $27.09/hour). In classified service, salary placement above Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on recruitment, candidate qualifications, internal equity, and budgets. For more details, refer to the Classified Compensation Schedules.
