Equipment Manager

About the role
The Equipment Manager will report to the Vice President of Manufacturing and will be an integral part of our Supply Chain Team, working daily with our Logistics, Procurement, Fleet Administration, and Finance teams. This role is responsible for managing a fleet totaling 250+ reefer rolling stock vehicles and equipment (semi-tractors, trailers, storage containers, pickup trucks, etc.) with an annual operating budget of $11M. These assets are critical to our Service and Manufacturing Operations, constantly moving between our manufacturing locations and job sites, delivering material on time and at temperature.
This is a transformative and dynamic role requiring an entrepreneurial spirit. You will own the Operating Budget and KPIs, manage the lifecycle of the assets, and collaborate with our Equipment Manufacturing Teams to add, dispose, and improve asset design. This position requires 10–20% travel and in-office work when not traveling.
Responsibilities
- Manage supplier relationships to drive repair cycle-time, asset availability, repair cost, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
- Work cross-functionally with Manufacturing and Procurement Teams to establish new local and national suppliers.
- Drive and participate in regular operating mechanisms around Fleet.
- Proactively communicate with Fleet Administration and Manufacturing Operations on availability and utilization of assets, new asset adds, transfers, and disposals.
- Ensure critical KPIs measuring availability and utilization are accurately reported.
- Work cross-functionally with Fleet Administration, EHS/Safety, and Manufacturing Operations to drive DOT Inspections, Temperature and GPS Reporting, and Preventative Maintenance (PM) compliance.
- Assist Finance in creating monthly operating cost forecasts, articulating variances to operating plans, and developing improvement plans.
- Create annual Operating and CAPEX budgets.
- Identify replacement assets to maximize critical KPIs (availability, utilization, TCO), collaborate with Equipment Manufacturing on purchase of replacement assets, disposal/refurbishment of aged equipment, and design improvements.
- Identify process improvements and digitization efforts; work with Business Intelligence on Fleet Management Dashboard improvements and assist in the development of AI tools to drive Fleet Management improvements.
- Collaborate with Procurement and others within the Supply Chain to achieve productivity and cost savings targets; assist in the development of new contracts and opportunities to improve Fleet KPIs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, finance, or supply chain.
- 5+ years of experience in Product, Fleet, or Equipment Management.
- Understanding of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and other fleet management principles.
- Critical thinking skills with the ability to independently mine, transform, and analyze large amounts of data using various systems and data analytics tools.
- Executive-level written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with ERP and MRP systems (JDE, SAP, etc.).
- Ability to travel domestically ~10–20% of the time.
Skills
- MBA and/or other Fleet Management certifications (e.g., CEM, CAFM, FFMCP, or CPFP).
- Understanding of DOT, DOT Hazmat, CARB, and other regulatory regulations.
- Knowledge of big data, experience with Power BI, and ability to digitize KPIs.
- Experience in manufacturing rolling stock, heavy construction equipment, or refrigerated equipment.
- Highly proficient in MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
