Equipment Instructor

Key Responsibilities

• Train employees on safe operation of heavy equipment and company safety programs (SWPs, hazards, safe practices).
• Develop and maintain training content (curriculum, materials, manuals).
• Assess training needs and customize programs for various experience levels.
• Lead training sessions (classroom, hands-on, virtual), traveling to different service areas.
• Coach safe work behaviors; correct unsafe practices and support continuous improvement.
• Maintain training records, competency assessments, and certifications.
• Cookordinate with Operations and Safety teams to prioritize training and ensure compliance.

Qualifications & Skills

• 10+ years experience Technical & Equipment Expertise: Proven experience operating a wide range of heavy machinery (e.g., excavators, bulldozers, loaders, cranes)
• In-depth knowledge of excavation, earthworks, and underground utility work
• Experience with both on-road and off-road equipment operations
• Safety & Compliance Knowledge: Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC
• Experience with excavation safety, shoring, confined spaces, and hazard recognition
• Ability to identify unsafe practices and coach employees on proper procedures
• Certification in occupational safety or equivalent
• Experience with adult education and delivering training to diverse audiences
• Outstanding written and verbal communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
• Valid Class 1 driver’s license in good standing
• Positive, motivated, outgoing individual who enjoys working outdoors and demonstrates flexibility
