About the role
The Rockford Park District is seeking a Seasonal TitleEquine Care Assistant to join our team at Lockwood Park - Perks Family Equine Center. This position performs horse chore tasks and administers medication to farm animals.
Responsibilities
- Catches and feeds animals assigned for grain, medicates and worms animals as needed, feeds hay, tends to animal injuries, catches and holds horses for the farrier and veterinarian services
- Administers medication to identified equine and farm animals; accurately records dosage information
- Reviews feed and medication charts; completes tasks effectively and safely
- Observes and understands equine behavior; identifies sick or injured animals
- Informs Animal Operations Manager of supplies needed
- Preserves and cares for equipment of the Rockford Park District
- Affords site safety concerns to the Animal Operations Manager and Maintenance Supervisor
- Represents the Park District in a friendly and positive manner when communicating with program participants, parents/guardians, staff, volunteers, and all other park visitors
- Attends scheduled staff meetings and training sessions as determined by the Animal Operations Manager
Requirements
- High School graduate or GED
- Previous experience working with or around horses required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Valid Driver’s License
- First Aid, CPR, and AED training (can be obtained through the Rockford Park District)
Physical Requirements
- Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force rarely, in excess of 50 pounds occasionally, and in excess of 10 pounds constantly
- Moderately physically intensive tasks, potentially including any combination of the following: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, repetitive motions, substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Physically active position that involves stamina
