About the role

The Department of Health (DOH) is seeking an Epidemiology Research Associate to support important public health work. This role involves studying disease trends and strengthening systems that protect communities across the Commonwealth.

Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis: Conduct analyses, review data quality, and develop reports and dashboards using surveillance systems
  • Program Support: Work with program staff to oversee Pennsylvania National Electronic Data Surveillance System (PA-NEDSS) data, manage electronic lab reporting, and guide case notifications
  • System Collaboration: Coordinate with technology teams to improve surveillance systems and address technical issues
  • Cross Program Work: Integrate TB and STD data with other public health datasets to support broader epidemiologic studies
  • Data Communication: Explain data findings, limitations, and uses to staff, partners, and stakeholders
  • Policy Contribution: Support the review and development of surveillance policies and assist with applying disease reporting requirements

Qualifications

  • One year of professional experience performing public health or environmental health epidemiological investigations or studies, or designing and managing a disease surveillance system
  • A master's degree that includes or is supplemented by six credits in epidemiology, environmental health, statistics, or research
  • One year of experience using SAS, R, or Python statistical software packages
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title
