About the role
The Epic Subject Matter Expert (SME) serves as the organization's primary resource for Epic-related processes, workflows, and optimization opportunities. This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution to identify improvement opportunities, develop practical solutions, and implement changes that enhance operational performance and user experience.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning & Optimization
- Evaluate current workflows, processes, and system utilization to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop recommendations that align Epic functionality with business and operational goals.
- Create actionable plans for system enhancements, workflow redesigns, and process improvements.
- Assess new Epic features and functionality and recommend opportunities for adoption.
- Hands-On Execution
- Design, configure, test, and implement Epic enhancements and system changes.
- Gather and document business requirements and translate them into functional solutions.
- Perform workflow analysis and implement process improvements.
- Support upgrade activities, testing efforts, and go-live initiatives.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex application and workflow issues.
- Monitor outcomes and adjust solutions as needed to ensure desired results.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
- Act as the primary point of contact for assigned Epic applications and workflows.
- Partner with operational, clinical, and technical teams to understand needs and priorities.
- Facilitate discussions to gather requirements and build consensus around solutions.
- Communicate project updates, recommendations, and impacts to stakeholders.
- Change Enablement & Support
- Develop training materials, job aids, and user guidance.
- Support end-user adoption of new workflows and system functionality.
- Provide subject matter expertise during project planning, implementation, and optimization efforts.
- Mentor users and provide ongoing support to improve system utilization.
- Continuous Improvement
- Analyze user feedback, operational metrics, and system performance data.
- Recommend and implement enhancements that improve efficiency, quality, and user satisfaction.
- Maintain documentation related to workflows, system configurations, and business processes.
- Ensure solutions align with organizational standards and compliance requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, Business, Nursing, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of Epic application experience, including implementation, optimization, and support.
- Epic certification(s) in applicable modules.
- Demonstrated ability to both develop recommendations and execute associated work products.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the USA. No contractors, C2C, or visa sponsorship.
