Environmental Technician IV - Air Quality and Climate Division - Temporary

This position is open to all State employees and external applicants. It is a temporary role with variable hours, not guaranteed to be full-time.

About the role

Independently reviews and analyzes permits for proposed projects and plans for consistency with policies, statutes, regulations, rules, and environmental impact. Prepares recommendations for alternatives; researches, collects, analyzes, and enters information into databases; maintains databases and drafts reports. Develops, presents, and distributes informational and educational materials. Conducts field work, including project reviews, site inspections, investigations, and preparation of draft recommendations for regulatory compliance, including enforcement in regulatory programs. Participates in staff training and may represent the state in public meetings and legal proceedings. Recommends technical and administrative program changes; plans, develops, and implements environmental plans and programs; reviews and processes grant loan applications.

Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary, requiring private transportation. Fieldwork may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous waste, construction sites in all weather conditions, rough terrain, and bodies of water. Some work outside regular hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong and conflicting opinions may be encountered regularly.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, a biological life or physical science, math, or natural resources field and three or more years of technical-level experience in an environmental or natural resources field.
• OR Associate’s degree in engineering, a biological life or physical science, math, or natural resources field and five or more years of technical-level experience in an environmental or natural resources field.
• OR Two or more years of experience as an Environmental Technician III.
