Environmental Technician

About the role

The Environmental Technician is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of landfill gas extraction systems, leachate collections systems, and other related systems at Republic Services’ landfills. The position ensures ongoing monitoring of these systems, adhering to safety regulations, federal, and state requirements.

Responsibilities

• Conducts or assists with environmental sampling, including ground water, surface water, air quality, and gas migration.
• Measures and records gas levels in landfill well fields and at boundary probes to ensure compliance with safety regulations, federal, and state requirements.
• Troubleshoots and corrects landfill gas extraction systems; reports complex issues to management for timely resolution.
• Manages and troubleshoots leachate systems to ensure operation in accordance with safety standards and regulations.
• Performs landfill surveying activities as required.
• Prepares and submits required reporting data for landfill gas extraction, leachate, and related systems.
• Performs all duties safely and efficiently, adhering to all safety regulations and compliance requirements.
• Completes other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of experience working at a site regulated by OSHA.
• Good time management skills to complete responsibilities efficiently and safely.
• Strong communication skills to effectively report operating issues to management.
• Ability to follow through on tasks and adhere to work schedules.
• Commitment to company policies, safety standards, and ethical work practices.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $18.30 to $25.20 per hour, reflecting the minimum wage in multiple jurisdictions. The actual range will depend on the locality of hire.
