Environmental Specialist - Union

About the role

This position is located onsite at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision. Interact professionally with other employees, customers, and suppliers. Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.

Responsibilities

• Keep buildings in clean and orderly condition.
• Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.
• Perform routine maintenance activities and notify management of need for repairs.
• Take precautions to protect all government property including furniture, walls, baseboards, and other surfaces.
• Report all accidents to your supervisor immediately.
• Keep all equipment clean and free from built-up wax and debris.
• Use wet floor signs at all times.
• Secure vehicles and equipment at the end of each shift.
• Perform assigned work as scheduled.
• Reposition all items to original position when moved to facilitate cleaning operations.
• Comply with all applicable safety- and health-related rules, regulations, and procedures, including wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Work safely and help teammates work safely.
• Assist supervisors and managers in identifying and mitigating potentially hazardous conditions.
• All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Must be able to drive and possess a valid driver's license.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Minimum of 1 year experience of floor cleaning, 1 year experience using a floor machine, high speed buffing machine, and an extraction carpet shampoo machine.
• Must have knowledge of how to properly strip, wax, and seal commercial tile.
• Shift work is required (day shift & night shift) — must be flexible.
• Load and unload your own equipment.
• Must be able to obtain required NASA badge.
• Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or Citizenship documents on date of hire.
• Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
