About the role

Crusoe is seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our growing Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team. This role focuses on executing multi-media environmental compliance programs, with a primary emphasis on waste management, SPCC planning, stormwater management, and aboveground storage tanks (ASTs).

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day hazardous and non-hazardous waste program management, including conducting waste characterizations, coordinating with logistics vendors, managing manifests, and ensuring robust regulatory recordkeeping.
  • Perform generator status determinations and RCRA compliance reviews at operating field sites.
  • Help maintain and update SPCC plans for sites utilizing aboveground storage tanks (ASTs). Track routine inspection schedules, support plan amendments as new facilities come online, coordinate with operations teams on spill prevention practices, and support Professional Engineer (PE) certification processes.

Assist in the development, update, and inspection tracking of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), review the implementation and effectiveness of Best Management Practices (BMPs), and coordinate with construction and operations teams on site development requirements.
  • Manage centralized compliance calendars and databases to track permit conditions, inspection reports, and regulatory deadlines across multi-media programs. Prepare and submit timely environmental reports to regulatory agencies with guidance and mentorship from senior staff.
  • Partner with Field Operations and HSE teammates to ensure site staff fully understand multi-media compliance requirements. Support environmental training coordination and contribute directly to incident investigations and corrective action tracking following spill events or non-compliance findings.
  • Map and evaluate existing environmental processes to identify automation opportunities, bottlenecks, and data gaps; recommend AI-assisted improvements that reduce manual burden while maintaining regulatory defensibility.
  • Monitor evolving federal and state environmental regulations relevant to multi-media programs (including the Clean Water Act, Oil Pollution Prevention, and RCRA). Help assess prospective project locations for applicable permits and registration requirements in partnership with senior environmental staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related scientific/technical field is required.
  • 1–5 years of relevant environmental compliance experience.
  • Direct experience managing or supporting at least one key compliance area, such as SPCC, stormwater permitting (SWPPP/NPDES), hazardous/non-hazardous waste management, AST compliance, or emergency response.
  • Foundational to solid working knowledge of major federal environmental regulations (specifically Clean Water Act, RCRA, and 40 CFR Part 112).
  • Familiarity with state-level environmental programs in Texas, Colorado, or the Rockies is highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to engage effectively with field operations personnel and build collaborative, cross-functional relationships.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and compliance tracking systems. Familiarity with navigating regulatory agency portals (such as TCEQ's STEERS, NetDMR, etc.) is highly preferred.
