About the Role

Performs daily cleaning tasks for resident rooms, nursing stations, lounges, restrooms, offices, and any other assigned areas in accordance with standard procedures of the Environmental Services Department and facility standards. Handles laundry duties including receiving, sorting, washing, drying, folding, tracking, and delivering laundry within the Children’s Center, following prescribed standards.

Responsibilities

  • Understands and promotes Elizabeth Seton Children’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Performs basic cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedules and methods, including:
    • Cleaning resident rooms, offices, corridors, stairways, furniture, restrooms, shower rooms, and other areas.
    • High dusting, sanitizing, spot cleaning, bathroom cleaning, emptying wastebaskets, and vacuuming carpets.
    • Cleaning wheelchairs and other assigned equipment.
    • Damp-wiping stairway treads and railings.
    • Operating wet/dry vacuum units, carpet vacuums, steamers, and pressure washers.
    • Damp-wiping furniture and polishing metal/porcelain fixtures.
    • Mopping, sanitizing floors, and washing walls/glass doors.
    • Replenishing bathroom supplies and performing "check-out" cleaning.
    • Scrubbing or buffing floors, vacuuming, and shampooing carpets.
    • Assisting with stripping and refinishing hard surface floors.
    • Transporting waste and disposing of it in the compactor or holding area.
    • Cycle cleaning induction units, light fixtures, windows, ceilings, and walls.
    • Measuring and mixing cleaning chemicals.
    • Assisting in cleaning emergency spills when observed or upon request.
    • Maintaining assigned equipment and reporting repair needs.
    • Observing and reporting the need for repairs to equipment, furniture, building, and fixtures.
  • Handles laundry duties, including:
    • Collecting, sorting, and weighing soiled laundry, linen, and garments.
    • Sorting, counting, and washing soiled laundry in accordance with established procedures.
    • Inspecting and sorting linen as received from laundry; recording and returning rejects.
    • Folding clean linen and delivering covered carts to user locations.
    • Taking count of unused linen from previous deliveries and replenishing linen according to PAR level.
    • Loading/unloading washers and dryers, washing and ironing staff uniforms, and printing/hot labeling residents' clothing.
    • Maintaining logs for linen closets and reporting discrepancies.
    • Keeping the linen room clean and orderly.
  • Assists in emergency situations, including evacuating residents during internal disasters or preparing extra beds/linen during external disasters.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma preferred.
  • 2-3 years of experience as a Housekeeping Worker or Laundry Worker, preferably in a healthcare facility.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
  • Must meet health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and other regulatory agencies.
  • Must pass a medical and physical examination as per the Center’s policies.
  • Ability to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 35 pounds.
  • Willingness to perform tasks involving exposure to residents' blood/body fluids.
  • Ability to assist in the evacuation of residents if necessary.

Pay

Hourly Rate Range: $24.52 to $26.31 per hour.
