Environmental Services Technician - Ottumwa, IA - Full Time
About the role
Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Empty waste baskets
- Sweep, scrub, wax, or polish floors using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines
- Clean patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas so that health standards are met
- Wear proper protective equipment following appropriate guidelines
- Keep storage, equipment and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy
- Use pagers and other technology appropriately when needed
- Assist in laundry areas as appropriate
- Use technology applications as available depending upon location
Physical demands
- Considerable use of arms and legs and moving of whole body; such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50lbs and push/pull up variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up and down ramps
- On feet for majority of shift
- May be exposed to certain levels of noise with equipment in operation
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred
- Ability to use computer helpful
- Prior cleaning experience helpful
- Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods and cleaning chemicals helpful
- Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills required
- Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment preferred
Schedule
8-hour day shifts, full time, 40 hours per week. Work hours will vary depending on patient/resident needs and may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
Pay
$13.50 - $17.00 per hour with a $5,000 sign-on bonus.
