About the role
The Environmental Services (EVS) Technician / Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the hospital. This position performs routine cleaning, disinfection, and waste removal tasks in patient care areas, offices, public spaces, and support departments. The EVS Technician plays a vital role in supporting infection prevention efforts and creating a positive experience for patients, visitors, and staff. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to providing outstanding service in a healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Clean and disinfect patient rooms, bathrooms, treatment areas, offices, and common areas according to established procedures.
- Perform daily, discharge, terminal, and specialized cleaning as assigned.
- Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors and surfaces throughout the facility.
- Safely collect, transport, and dispose of regular, recyclable, and regulated waste.
- Replenish supplies including paper products, soap, hand sanitizer, and other housekeeping materials.
- Clean and sanitize high-touch surfaces to support infection prevention initiatives.
- Respond promptly to spills, urgent cleaning requests, and other environmental service needs.
- Operate housekeeping equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, buffers, and carpet cleaning equipment.
- Follow proper handling procedures for cleaning chemicals and disinfectants.
- Maintain assigned equipment and report maintenance or repair needs.
- Adhere to hospital policies, safety procedures, and infection prevention standards.
- Provide courteous and professional service to patients, visitors, and staff.
- Complete all required documentation and reports accurately.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Previous housekeeping, custodial, janitorial, hotel, or environmental services experience preferred.
- Experience in a healthcare or hospital setting preferred.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and cleaning procedures preferred.
