Environmental Services Technician (EVS) - Housekeeping Aid - Wednesday - Sunday Second Shift
Qualifications
To qualify for this position - applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required - but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge - skills - and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element - which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.
Duties
- Executes a full range of housekeeping activities in patient and non-patient care areas
- May be assigned to any tour and may be required to work in various designated areas during any tour of duty
- Works independently with general supervision or works with a team and is responsible for the full-range of cleaning duties in an assigned area throughout the medical facility
- Performs infection control and hazardous waste procedures - following proper task sequences to remove soiled and contaminated textiles - needle boxes - and body fluid spills
- Identifies different types of medical - non-medical - biohazardous - hazardous - and normal waste to properly carry out duties
- Cleans and replaces needle boxes in accordance with safety standards
- Cleans reusable medical equipment (RME) in inpatient and clinical areas according to established procedures
- Adjusts - cleans - and performs minor maintenance on equipment - including changing attachments for proper use and optimal results
- Utilizes pressure washers and industrial-powered equipment to complete cleaning tasks effectively
- Operates light and heavy industrial cleaning equipment - including vacuum cleaners - to perform assigned duties
- Cleans restrooms - bathrooms - and shower rooms - ensuring they meet acceptable sanitation standards by disinfecting and deodorizing fixtures and surfaces
- Works independently or as part of a team to complete the full range of cleaning duties across assigned areas of the medical facility
- Replenishes supplies such as paper towels - toilet paper - hand sanitizer - and soap in designated areas
- Reads - writes - and performs simple math to accurately record waste and laundry handling processes
Physical Requirements
The position demands continuous walking - standing - stooping - kneeling - pulling - and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy-powered cleaning equipment (e.g. - wall washers - industrial-type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity - hand - foot - and eye coordination - and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt - dust and debris.
