Environmental Services Technician

About the Role

As our Environmental Services Technician, you'll keep our patient rooms and all areas of the hospital clean and sanitized to protect everyone from potential illness or injury due to infectious diseases or other hazards. You are a critical component in ensuring the safety and comfort of our patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, or dusting.
• Use specialized equipment and techniques to sanitize the facility.
• Adhere to proper disposal techniques for biohazard materials, including bodily fluids or sharp objects.
• Refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, and other supplies, as well as deliver clean linens.
• Complete daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and other common areas.
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of healthcare cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements.
• Display safe chemical use and equipment handling within the healthcare environment.
• Adhere to all organization safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety.
• Actively participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including improving patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
• Maintain cleaning cart(s), supplies, and equipment as outlined in the Standard Work cart setup.
• Remove waste and transport it to the appropriate disposal area, identifying proper waste stream handling (regulated medical, recycle, solid, and hazardous) in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Follow all infection prevention practices, including proper cleaning and disinfection protocols, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, and proper donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Recognize and adhere to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
• Practice critical thinking skills and demonstrate personal accountability.
• Identify and utilize appropriate resources to resolve problems or concerns.
• Demonstrate knowledge of facility safety requirements.
• Operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment.
• Perform tasks according to facility needs, including conference room setups, cleaning of stairwells and elevators, and hanging cubicle curtains.
• Mentor new Environmental Services Tech I employees as needed.
• Collaborate with others as part of the patient care team.

Requirements

• None required upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED in General Studies.
• Previous healthcare experience.

Pay

$15.00 - $21.47 per hour.
