Environmental Services Tech

About the role

As our Environmental Services Technician, you’ll keep patient rooms and all areas of the hospital clean and sanitized to protect everyone from potential illness or injury due to infectious diseases or other hazards. You will perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and dusting, and use specialized equipment and techniques to further sanitize the facility. This role requires learning and adhering to proper disposal techniques for biohazard materials, including bodily fluids or sharp objects. You may also refill soap and paper towel dispensers, deliver clean linens, and assist with conference room setups, stairwells, elevators, and cubicle curtain changes.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily occupied, discharge, and transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and common spaces in accordance with healthcare environmental services standards.
• Follow infection prevention, safety, risk management, and HIPAA guidelines, including proper PPE use, hand hygiene, isolation precautions, and waste stream handling procedures.
• Demonstrate knowledge of healthcare cleaning principles, safe chemical usage, and proper operation and maintenance of EVS equipment and tools.
• Maintain cleaning carts, supplies, and equipment while ensuring work areas meet cleanliness, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with the patient care team, apply critical thinking and accountability, and resolve concerns using appropriate resources and communication.
• Support departmental and facility operations through performance improvement initiatives, mentoring new staff, and assisting with additional facility needs.

Requirements

• Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
• Preferred: High School Graduate or GED in General Studies and previous healthcare experience.
