About the role
The Environmental Services Technician, under the direction and supervision of the Housekeeping Manager, supports the housekeeping staff by performing routine and non-routine tasks such as trash removal, washing windows, cleaning common areas, cleaning carpets, and stripping and waxing floors.
Schedule
- Anticipated work hours: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm, Monday–Friday
- One weekend day per month required
Pay
Starting rate: $16.50 per hour; pay range: $16.50 – $24.50 per hour based on experience.
Essential Job Functions
- Removes trash from main collection points and hauls it to dumpsters; tears down cardboard boxes for disposal
- Cleans trash rooms, utility rooms, restrooms, kitchens, vacuums and washes floors, cleans sinks and countertops, wet mops floors; completes side duties per check sheets
- Supports preventative maintenance cleaning programs by cleaning carpets, stripping and waxing floors; cleans licensed-area carpeting immediately if soiled with bodily fluids in resident rooms and public spaces
- Assists housekeeping staff with moving furniture or cleaning out vacated units; assists Facilities team with various tasks as needed
- Cleans and maintains environmental services equipment; reports damaged or unsafe equipment to the Lead or Housekeeping Manager
- Performs all work safely, reports safety hazards immediately, uses and stores cleaning chemicals properly, displays and removes wet-floor signs appropriately
- Knows emergency procedures and reports emergencies to Security as necessary
- Maintains positive interaction with residents, guests, and other employees
- Complies with all Williamsburg Landing policies and procedures including attendance, standards of conduct, dress, safety, and personal hygiene
- Keeps uniform clean and neat; maintains infection-control standards including proper hand washing and use of hair nets and gloves
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Position is required to perform tasks in a pet-friendly environment
Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
- Prior work experience in a similar environmental services environment preferred
- Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to be pleasant, tactful, and courteous with residents
- Willingness to perform repetitive daily tasks
- Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 75 pounds
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and reach overhead; ability to stoop, kneel, lean over, and climb stairs frequently throughout the work day
- Exhibited initiative and good judgment
- Ability to use floor-scrubbing, stripping and waxing equipment, and carpet-extracting equipment and supplies safely
- Ability to work some weekend and holiday shifts
- Ability to perform housekeeping duties in a pet-friendly environment and understanding pet needs and behaviors, including cleaning households and common spaces where pets are present
