About the role
Cleans walls, lights, fixtures, and furniture in all assigned areas of the Hospital to maintain an aseptic environment and prevent nosocomial infection through using standard cleaning procedures and chemicals.
Responsibilities
- Cleans, waxes, extracts, and maintains floors, carpeting, and stairwells; assists with heavy cleaning throughout the Hospital.
- Coordinates with nursing staff and supervisor to prioritize cleaning occupied rooms, checks empty rooms, and attends to emergency cleaning for spills.
- Uses appropriate cleaning agents and techniques to wash and clean patient rooms daily, including:
- Bucket cleans patient rooms daily; damp mops or vacuums floors.
- Dusts furniture, ledges, and bed tables; removes debris.
- Empties, washes, and relines wastebaskets.
- Spot washes walls and windows.
- Cleans telephones, TVs, TV controls, doors (all parts), IV poles, blood pressure cuff leads, suction bottles, closets (inside and out), curtains, and blinds.
- Uses appropriate cleaning agents and techniques to wash and clean restrooms, including:
- Washes basins, commodes, tubs, and showers.
- Cleans mirrors, soap dishes, water pipes, and exterior surfaces.
- Dusts ledges, damp mops floors, and spot washes walls.
- Empties wastebaskets and relines them.
- Refills toilet tissue, paper towels, and soap dispensers.
- Performs periodic detail cleaning of assigned areas.
- Maintains corridors by dry mopping and damp mopping; spot washes corridor and elevator landings.
- Maintains all carpets by vacuuming, extracting, bonnet cleaning, and spot cleaning as needed.
- Hangs curtains if needed and checks the condition of own equipment (carts, vacuums, tools, etc.); cleans equipment upon return.
- Reports any maintenance or repairs needed immediately.
- Uses appropriate cleaning agents and techniques for precaution (isolation) patient rooms, including wearing proper protective clothing.
- Demonstrates knowledge of mixing cleaning agents and proper use of each agent.
- Displays a "can do" attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program.
- When entering a patient room, greets each patient by giving your name; repeats this practice when exiting the room.
- When working or operating cleaning equipment in common areas, ceases cleaning, turns off machines, and assists patients/visitors who appear lost or in need of help.
- Acknowledges patients and visiting family members/friends when servicing a room.
- Reports patient needs and requests to nursing staff when directed.
- Engages in simple conversation with patients/family (when appropriate) during cleaning without violating HIPAA.
Requirements
- Equivalent to two (2) years of high school preferred.
- Up to three (3) months to become proficient in all aspects of the position.
- Requires ability to read and follow instructions.
Schedule
11:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Schedule includes working every weekend and every holiday.

Pay Range: $17.42 - $23.45
