Schedule
- Full time (benefited): 40 hours per week (preferred)
- Environmental Services: 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM
- Weekend rotation: required
- Holiday rotation: required
- Part time (non-benefited): 12-18 hours per week
- Surgical Services / Laundry: Weekdays – Afternoon / Early Evening (cleaning of operating room / surgical suite between and after surgical cases)
- One Sunday shift per month preferred (flexible hours)
- Environmental Services: 4:00 AM - 8:00 AM or 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM (weekdays; schedule can vary)
About the role
Provide a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for patients in accordance with healthcare laws and regulations of the State of Nebraska, and the directives, policies, and budgets established by KCHS.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning tasks of the facility including the hospital, clinic, public patient areas, and office areas.
- Understand daily cleaning tasks, know where all environmental services supplies are located, and how to correctly use them.
- Understand and carry out correct use of all chemicals.
- Ensure the Operating Room/Surgical Suite is sterile and safe by cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing OR tables, equipment, and floors between surgeries and at end of day.
- Ensure other areas of the facility (offices, patient rooms, clinic rooms, ER, bathrooms, and hallways) are dust-free, clean, and sanitized (including but not limited to: corners, ceilings, floors, walls, vents, mirrors, cubicle curtains, shades, furnishings).
- Keep all floors clean and in good condition, including sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, vacuuming, and shampooing.
- Keep all soap and paper towel dispensers clean, sanitized, and stocked.
- Keep all utility and store rooms clean, stocked, and organized.
- Ensure all carts are cleaned and supplies are stocked and ready for the next day before leaving at the end of the day.
- Complete all work lists daily, weekly, and monthly.
- Follow proper procedure while completing all work assignments and paperwork; ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Submit work orders for any repairs needed.
- Use all housekeeping equipment properly and follow manufacturer recommendations and facility procedures.
- Clean all equipment as scheduled and report any issues to the Director of Environmental Services.
- Sanitize all equipment used for isolation or spills immediately after use.
- Perform laundry tasks on a rotating basis, including:
- Using all laundry equipment correctly (scale, washers, dryers, etc.).
- Following correct procedure for picking up soiled linens and delivering clean linens.
- Accurately sorting, weighing, and documenting linen by department.
- Treating soiled linens and washing/drying according to proper procedure.
- Removing stained and worn-out linens from inventory and documenting removal.
- Replenishing new laundry from the storeroom to maintain adequate supply.
- Handle bio-hazardous waste according to regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Follow all facility, state, and federal regulations; ensure policies are up-to-date and followed.
- Do not work over 40 hours without prior approval of the department director.
- Report to work well-groomed, observe uniform/dress guidelines, and wear a name identification badge.

- Keep voice down; avoid shouting or using improper language.

Infection Control
- Adhere to infection control policies as evidenced by in-service attendance records and employee practices.
- Demonstrate correct hand-washing technique.
- Demonstrate knowledge and use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Notify the Infection Control Nurse of real or potential exposures.
Risk Management & Safety
- Adhere to risk management and safety policies as evidenced by in-service attendance records and employee practices.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and co-workers.
- Follow all general safety rules.
- Notify the Safety Director and/or Risk Manager of incidents involving injury or potential injury.
- Submit incident reports according to hospital policy.
Requirements
- Complete required careLearning modules.
- Complete other required certifications or classes necessary to perform essential job functions.
Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience: None required; must be 16 to apply.
- Certificates, Licensure, Registrations: None required; CPR certification preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively to maintain good working relationships.
- Capable of communicating clearly (reading, writing, and speaking) in English.
- Proficient in operating a personal computer with Microsoft Office and the Internet.
- Capable of reading and comprehending complex healthcare laws and regulations.
