About the role

AECOM is seeking an Environmental Scientist to be based out of our Fort Collins or Denver office. This position will support our Remediation team within our Environment business line and is expected to begin within a month. The selected applicant will work on investigation and remediation projects while managing AECOM staff, subcontractors, technical delivery, stakeholder engagement/communication, and financial management.

Responsibilities

  • Performs standard and advanced scientific work requiring application of techniques and procedures.
  • Detects problems when using standardized procedures due to sample conditions, equipment difficulties, etc.
  • Conducts specific phases of projects for more experienced scientists.
  • Proposes appropriate analytical methods and techniques.
  • Assists in providing advice and consulting services within scope of scientific knowledge.
  • Draws conclusions and makes recommendations based on analysis.
  • Collaborates with team members and project managers to meet client needs on schedule and within budget.
  • Utilizes various techniques to generate data from remedial or investigative field work, including:
    • Soil, groundwater, and vapor sampling.
    • Soil boring and monitoring well installations using techniques such as DPT, HSA, sonic, air rotary, and mud-rotary.
    • Operations and maintenance of remedial systems.
  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, and compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Mentors and trains junior staff.
  • Works independently or with minimal direction to prepare draft technical documents.
  • Flexible with working extended hours and locations; travel may exceed 50 percent of the time (local to Colorado).
  • Assists project and program management with design and implementation of soil, groundwater, sediment, and surface water investigative and remediation programs, data analysis, and report preparation.
  • Performs regulatory compliance inspections, sampling, and reporting associated with permit and/or regulatory requirements for commercial/industrial facilities.

Requirements

  • BA/BS + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License; must pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records Review as a condition of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of this work.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and complete medical surveillance.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience performing and leading site investigations, including:
    • Soil, groundwater, and vapor sampling.
    • Soil boring and monitoring well installations using various drilling techniques.
    • Analytical data interpretation and reporting.
  • Understanding of site assessment and remediation associated with upstream oil and gas sites.
  • Knowledge of Colorado ECMC regulations.
  • Experience with groundwater modeling and numeric computing environments.
  • Current professional licensure, certifications, and/or accreditations.
  • Familiarity with Colorado and Federal Environmental Regulations.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training certification.
  • Experience and confidence to work independently to produce high-quality deliverables on time and on budget.
  • Proficient technical writing (e.g., remedial investigation reports, corrective action studies).

Pay

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, and experience. The range for this position is $65,000 to $102,000 per year.
