Environmental Scientist/Geologist I

FPM Remediations, Inc. is seeking a junior-level Environmental Scientist/Geologist for a full-time position in its Columbus, OH office. This role offers an opportunity to join a team of experienced environmental professionals and apply the latest technologies in field investigations and site remediation across the country.

Responsibilities

• Support fieldwork at locations around the United States, including collecting soil, surface water, groundwater, sediment, and air samples
• Complete daily field reports and package/shipping samples to laboratories for analysis
• Maintain, calibrate, and operate field instruments
• Oversee and monitor subcontractor work (drill rig crews, surveyors, construction crews, and remediation teams)
• Conduct health and safety air monitoring
• Observe, evaluate, and document site field conditions; communicate changes to senior staff
• Support preparation of technical reports, including importing electronic laboratory data into data management systems
• Evaluate data quality and usability
• Prepare written reports of field activities, observations, and findings, including graphics and figures of results

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or related field, with a preferred focus on geology and coursework in chemistry, physics, and mathematics
• Ability to travel extensively (>80% initially)
• Strong technical writing skills and attention to detail
• Ability to analyze chemistry and environmental data
• Effective communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to adapt to changing situations and work as part of a team
• GIS experience is a plus
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
• Must be able to successfully complete a U.S. government-administered investigation

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle tools/controls, operate vehicles/equipment, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, see, talk, and hear
• Fieldwork involves navigating uneven terrain and other outdoor obstacles
• Perform physically demanding tasks and work 10-hour days (typically five 10-hour days per week)
• Work in adverse field conditions (cold, heat, high wind, dusty environments, rough terrain) in remote locations
