About the role

TRC is seeking a full-time, entry-level Environmental Technician / Scientist in the Air Measurements Practice of our Austin, TX office to assist with air emissions testing projects at various industrial facilities. This role involves significant overnight travel (75% of weeks) across the U.S., including Guam and Hawaii, with field assignments typically lasting 1–5 days. Projects help industry achieve environmental compliance while maintaining productivity. Responsibilities

  • Perform air emissions testing at industrial facilities, including recording data, operating equipment, and recovering/analyzing samples.
  • Travel overnight for fieldwork (1–5 days per project), with some weekend work or travel required.
  • Assist with equipment calibrations, repairs, prep/packing for projects, data reduction, report writing, and lab work when not in the field.
  • Develop proficiency in USEPA sampling methods and knowledge of industrial processes through on-the-job training and mentorship.
  • Work at elevated test locations (e.g., exhaust stacks, rooftops) and outdoors in all seasons.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and work comfortably at elevated locations (accessed via stairs, ladders, or elevators).
  • Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong written/oral communication skills and moderate computer proficiency.
  • Solution-oriented attitude and willingness to learn.
  • College degree required (science/engineering background preferred but not mandatory).
  • Valid driver’s license and successful completion of pre-employment motor vehicle records check (DOT driver status required post-hire).
  • Pass background check and drug test (including marijuana) prior to employment; participation in TRC’s random drug testing program mandatory.
  • Complete all required annual safety training post-hire.

Pay

  • $24–$27/hour: 0–1 year of source testing experience.
  • $27–$30/hour: 1–3 years of source testing experience.
  • $30–$35/hour: 3+ years of source testing experience.

Compensation may vary based on experience, education, skills, and location. Eligibility for annual discretionary bonuses contingent on performance.
