Duties And Responsibilities
- Champions “The Layton Way” by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
- Ensures that “Constructing with Integrity” is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
- Reports directly to the VP ESH and supports the SBU leadership team.
- Understands our Contractor Controlled Insurance Program (CCIP) and how we manage trade partners through our contractor selection process.
- Supports teams to manage hazard assessment activities by 1) conducting and/or supervising safety inspections, and 2) analyzing inspection and incident data to identify opportunities to develop preventive and corrective practices.
- Oversees safety staff and provides support to ensure compliance with all aspects of safety.
- Leads teams in the effective implementation and execution of critical safety systems, including the Corrective Action Plan, Pre-Mobilization, Weekly Focus Walks, Pre-Task Plan engagement, and the Injury Management Program.
- Act as corporate contact for any federal, state, or municipal safety or risk management authority and/or personnel, including, but not limited to OSHA.
- Lead the incident investigation process, including root cause analysis by reviewing accident and incident reports.
- Prepares monthly safety reports to present to management, owners, and parent company.
- Ensures completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
- Create, plan, and implement programs to train employees in work site safety practices that align with business expectations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety, safety management, construction or related field preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of direct commercial construction safety experience.
- Board Certified Safety Professional designation preferred (CSP, ASP, or CHST).
- OSHA 510 Certification obtained within the last 24 months.
- Thorough understanding and application of construction safety regulations, risk management principles, industrial hygiene practices, workers' compensation, and general liability.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, evaluate, and mitigate safety risks while developing effective safety strategies and solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to effectively influence and gain buy-in from diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to delegate effectively and lead high-performing safety teams in a director-level capacity.
- High level of integrity consistent with Layton's "Constructing with Integrity" values.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Extensive travel to multiple locations will be required.
