Safety, Security & Environmental Manager

Position Summary
Our Client is seeking a Safety, Security & Environmental Manager to lead environmental, health, safety, and security initiatives across a large-scale food manufacturing operation and supporting field locations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on EHS professional who excels at influencing teams, coaching leaders, implementing best practices, and developing programs that protect employees, products, and the environment while supporting business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for all facility safety, environmental, health, and security programs across manufacturing and affiliated operational sites.

  • Support safety initiatives for live production, transportation, fleet, and garage operations in partnership with regional and corporate safety leadership.

  • Manage daily activities of the site EHS team, ensuring effective deployment of resources and consistent execution of safety programs.

  • Oversee facility security operations, including site access controls, security procedures, audits, training initiatives, and performance metrics.

  • Serve as the site's technical resource for safety, environmental compliance, risk management, and operational improvement projects.

  • Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, and corporate functional teams to ensure safe and compliant work processes.

  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including OSHA, DOT, NFPA, DHS, and environmental regulations.

  • Engage employees at all levels to strengthen safety awareness, employee involvement, and accountability throughout the organization.

  • Identify, investigate, and resolve workplace safety concerns while promoting proactive hazard recognition and mitigation.

  • Develop and execute annual safety strategies and business plans based on data analysis, trends, and performance indicators.

  • Conduct internal audits and assessments, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and verified through completion.

  • Cook up and facilitate safety, security, and compliance training programs to ensure workforce readiness and regulatory adherence.

  • Lead or support investigations involving workplace incidents, injuries, security events, and near misses.

  • Determine root causes of incidents and oversee the implementation and completion of corrective and preventive actions.

  • Analyze incident data and emerging trends to develop targeted risk-reduction initiatives.

  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities and serve as a key member of the site's emergency response and incident command structure.

  • Act as the primary contact for regulatory agencies, insurance carriers, auditors, consultants, and emergency services organizations.

  • Prioritize collaboration with contractors and third-party service providers to verify compliance with site safety expectations and safe work practices.

  • Partner with occupational health professionals to support employee wellness, injury management, and return-to-work programs.

  • Aid in workers' compensation administration and claims management efforts.

  • Regularly communicate safety, environmental, and security performance, concerns, and recommendations to facility leadership.

Qualifications

  • Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Science, Business, or a related field.
    • Minimum of five years of safety leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
    • Proven track record of developing and sustaining high-performing safety programs with exceptional incident-rate performance.
    • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and manufacturing safety requirements.
    • Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action management.
    • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team-building abilities.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational and project management capabilities.
    • Ability to effectively influence and collaborate with employees, leaders, contractors, and external stakeholders.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and safety management systems.
    • Valid driver's license.
    • CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain certification.
    • HAZWOPER certification (40-hour) with current refresher training, or ability to obtain and maintain certification.
    • Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.

  • Preferred:

    • Advanced degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline.
    • Experience supporting multiple facilities or geographically dispersed operations.
    • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or similar industry-recognized credentials.
    • Previous experience within food manufacturing, food processing, agriculture, or other highly regulated production environments.
