The Environmental Safety & Health (ES&H) Specialist is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and maintaining plans, policies, procedures, and programs necessary to maintain a safe and healthy environment for Northern New Mexico Integrated Security (N2MIS), subcontracted employees, the public, and the environment.
Responsibilities
- Research, understand, and maintain compliance with the requirements of DOE Worker Safety & Health 10 CFR 851, OSHA General Industry 29 CFR 1910, OSHA Recordkeeping 29 CFR 1904, DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations 49 CFR, and EPA 40 CFR as applicable.
- Analyze activities and projects for ES&H hazards and develop/implement appropriate controls.
- Aid in accident and injury/illness investigations, reporting, and tracking.
- Collect, analyze, maintain, and report safety performance indicator data for ES&H program activities.
- Coordinate with Occupational Medicine, track injury-related restrictions and Worker Compensation cases, and maintain OSHA logs.
- Aid in the administration of the Hearing Conservation, Sight Conservation, Motor Vehicle Safety, Firearms/Explosives Safety, Radiation Dosimetry, and Chemical and Hazardous Substances Program for N2MIS.
- Revise/Update/Maintain ES&H Document library and manage annual revision calendar.
- Conduct ES&H Assessments and Inspections.
- Cookout Industrial Hygiene Testing.
- Provide Environment, Safety and Health Training.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in ES&H; or Bachelor’s degree or Master’s Degree in a related field (i.e. Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, Environmental Health & Safety Management, Ergonomics and Safety).
- Currently have, or be able to obtain and maintain, a Department of Energy (DOE) Q level security clearance.
- Obtain and maintain a valid NM driver’s license.
- Certification in Occupational Safety and Health.
- Working knowledge and ability to apply Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Energy (DOE) safety and health standards.
- Strong verbal and written skills and proficiency in all Microsoft Office suite programs required.
- Includes strong skills in interpersonal communication and public speaking.
- Knowledge of/Competency in investigative and technical writing techniques.
