About the role

Amentum’s Environmental Remediation Services (ERS) Group is seeking a motivated and technically proficient Environmental Professional / Scientist (Geologist / Engineer / Environmental Scientist) with 3-8 years of experience to join our growing team in Pittsburgh, PA. In this role, you will assist in delivering environmental solutions for both private and government sector clients, particularly on hazardous waste sites. Successful candidates must be willing and able to regularly travel to project sites throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to conduct field investigations, implement site remediation programs addressing soil, groundwater, and vapor issues, manage vendors and subcontractors, and collaborate with project stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in environmental remediation projects, including planning, coordination, sampling, execution, safety lead duties for field activities, data analysis, and technical reporting phases
  • Conduct comprehensive field investigations utilizing standard field practices and equipment for the collection of samples, including soil, groundwater, soil vapor, surface water, sediment, and potable water
  • Apply a foundation in natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, hydrogeology, and mathematics) along with engineering principles to explain environmental observations and develop effective solutions to complex environmental issues and problems
  • Assist with environmental remediation system construction and operation
  • Ensure environmental compliance by reviewing environmental regulations and supporting environmental permitting and other compliance needs
  • Gather, interpret, and organize diverse environmental data sets using spreadsheets, graphs, or models
  • Oversee and effectively manage subcontractors, assuring strict adherence to work scopes, project specifications, and rigorous safety requirements
  • Work with a project team consisting of technicians, scientists, and engineers to meet project objectives and maintain client satisfaction
  • Assist in the preparation of work plans, support remedial designs, and final project reports
  • Lead projects from planning through execution, remedy assessment and selection, and ultimately implementing remediation strategies while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations
  • Oversee multi-disciplinary project teams, support proposal efforts, and provide mentorship to junior staff
  • Excel at communications, ensuring all stakeholders are consistently informed on project progress and execution

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or related sciences (geology, chemistry, or physics)
  • Valid driver license is required
  • 3-8 years of experience in the environmental field, environmental engineering, or geology/hydrogeology, ideally with environmental remediation experience
  • Knowledge of EPA and state remediation regulations (CERCLA, RCRA), experience with Pennsylvania’s Land Recycling Program (Act 2), Storage Tank Program, or Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act (HSCA) is beneficial
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill technical information clearly to diverse audiences within a multidisciplinary team
  • Desire and ability to deliver quality work and solve problems with critical thinking and sound judgment
  • Driven to take ownership of projects, prioritize tasks effectively, and thrive in a collaborative, team environment that fosters personal and professional growth
  • Availability for overnight travel (up to 50%), typically for less than one work week per trip
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and work in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) clothing, including a respirator

Amentum will provide 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER or refresher training if the selected candidate does not already possess this certification.

Pay

$60,000 - $95,000 (actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws)
