ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST

Responsibilities

• Identify needs for and gather hazardous material information; organize and maintain information or information management systems. Determine its importance and accuracy, and communicate it through various methods.
• Coordinate hazardous materials management programs. Ensure hazardous property is received, handled, stored, inspected, documented, and manifested/disposed of in compliance with applicable environmental regulations and safety requirements.
• Evaluate environmental programs by organizing, analyzing, and interpreting environmental data using a risk-based approach to identify problems and recommend solutions. Advise customers on evaluation results to enhance environmental compliance strategies.
• Identify and analyze problems; weigh relevance and accuracy of information; seek, generate, and evaluate alternative perspectives/solutions. Make timely and effective recommendations based on potential implications of findings or conclusions. Critically evaluate to identify causes of problems and choose courses of action balancing mission and stakeholder interests.

Requirements

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience includes:

• Knowledge of environmental handling and disposal procedures for hazardous materials and wastes.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
