HGL (HydroGeoLogic, Inc.) is seeking a highly motivated Professional Environmental Engineer/Geologist to serve as a Project Manager for a hybrid position in our Lakewood, CO office, located on the west side of the Denver metropolitan area. Our Lakewood office supports the USACE, USEPA, NASA, DOE, and DoD with environmental projects primarily in the Rocky Mountain region. Projects commonly involve investigation and remediation of sites with groundwater and soil impacted by emerging contaminants (PFAS), chlorinated solvents, and petroleum compounds, as well as abandoned mine lands.

About the role

We are looking for a creative professional to provide leadership and project management on complex environmental projects with a collaborative multi-disciplinary project team. The Project Manager will have opportunities to manage projects across HGL’s diverse program and project portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Management of technical and administrative aspects of CERCLA RI/FS, RD/RA, operations and maintenance (O&M), and/or long-term monitoring (LTM) or RCRA equivalent phases of environmental restoration projects.
  • Managing project financials, scope, schedule, and deliverables.
  • Ensuring accuracy of cost estimates and quality assurance of technical documents.
  • Performing peer review of technical documents and technical reviews performed by others, providing feedback and recommendations.
  • Participating in or leading project meetings with clients and stakeholders.
  • Providing mentorship and leadership to staff.
  • Directing, managing, and leading project teams to meet project objectives in-line with corporate and customer quality expectations.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, regulators, project team members, and company management.
  • Effectively managing project risks and developing mitigation approaches and strategies.
  • Supporting business development efforts, including leading or supporting proposal efforts.
  • Utilizing approved digital and AI-assisted tools, where appropriate, to support technical documentation, data analysis, project communications, and workflow efficiency.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of project management experience executing and managing investigation and remediation projects under CERCLA and RCRA, including oversight of project teams, management of budget, schedule, safety, quality, technical performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • BA/BS in Engineering, Science, or a related academic field. (MA/MS in a related field may decrease the years of project management experience required).
  • Excellent time management and organization skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and keep organized to ensure timely and accurate work.
  • Ability to build consensus among leadership, internal, and external stakeholders through effective interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adopt new technologies and digital tools to improve project delivery and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • PE, PG, and/or PMP certifications (preferred, not required).
  • Work experience in the western U.S.
  • Experience with investigation and/or remediation of PFAS-impacted sites.
  • Experience with investigation and/or remediation of abandoned mine lands.
  • Experience with high-resolution site characterization (HRSC).
  • Solid understanding of screening values and risk assessment process.
  • Experience with remedial technologies and approaches.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification.
  • Experience using generative AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) to improve technical writing, data analysis, research, visualization, or project delivery efficiency.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Prolonged sitting up to 70% of the time.
  • Walking over uneven or mountainous terrain.
  • Repetitive hand motions (typing, tool use, etc.).
  • Ability to see details at close range and view computer screens for extended periods.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze visual data (maps, graphs, warning indicators, etc.).
  • Driving a company or personal vehicle.
  • Analyzing and synthesizing data, complex problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Reading and interpreting technical documents or regulations.
  • Writing reports, proposals, or technical documentation.
  • Leading a team or coordinating multiple priorities.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Managing competing deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% per year.
  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Office work environment with potential for longer days up to 12 hours in duration.

Schedule

  • HGL office work follows a 5-day work week; however, fieldwork schedules may deviate based on job requirements and may require longer hours and weekends.
  • Hybrid work arrangement: 2-3 days per week in-office or on project site.
  • Travel: 25%.

Pay

The annual salary for this position ranges from $103,142 to $159,870. The final salary may be impacted by factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills.
