Environmental Project Engineer

Ensures sustainability and resilience of infrastructure through large-scale testing, field studies, and numerical simulations. Works at the intersection of natural elements and built environments to address environmental issues such as waste disposal, soil improvements, site remediation, waste handling, and permitting and regulatory coordination. Also provides materials testing and construction inspection as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
• Prepare and deliver Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
• Conduct field investigations, including:
  • Construction monitoring and instrumentation
  • Soil and groundwater sampling
  • Asbestos and Lead-based Paint Assessments
  • Remediation system monitoring and reporting
• Conduct and direct measurements and sample collection, including documentation of field tasks, data tabulation, and report preparation
• Coordinate subcontractor work, including scheduling of field activities and procurement of bids
• Make engineering calculations using standard formulas and computer software
• Provide construction inspection and materials testing as needed

Requirements

• Accredited degree in one of the following:
  • BS Engineering (Environmental, Civil, Geotechnical)
  • BS Geology
• 2 to 4 years of experience in the field or related area
• Wisconsin and Illinois regulatory consulting experience a plus
• Professional credentials or ability to obtain professional credentials within 1-2 years preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat required

Physical Demands

• May be required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and fingers
• Occasionally must reach above and below shoulder level
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and perform some physical labor

Environment/Working Conditions

• Split time between the administrative office and working in the field
• May require traveling up to 50% of the time
