Environmental Practice Team Lead

Geosyntec is seeking an Environmental Practice Team Lead in our Anchorage, Alaska office. A robust relocation package is available for candidates willing to relocate from MN, WI, TX, AZ, MI, CO, WA, OR, AZ, NV, WY, MT, or any other U.S. state.

About the Role

This individual will help lead and grow our practice in the Northwest Operation, managing client development, contaminant site investigation, human and ecological risk assessment, geospatial data and visualization, solid waste management, and environmental compliance work. The position is well-suited for a talented, experienced leader contributing to innovative and challenging projects, including financial and technical evaluation, design, permitting, and construction stages. Our Alaskan client base includes industrial, institutional, and governmental clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of ten with potential for growth, fostering collaboration and mentorship.
• Work in a sell-manage-do culture, balancing technical project work with business development and client management.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including data scientists, geologists, engineers, chemists, risk assessors, and modelers.
• Build and maintain a client portfolio through repeat business and new client acquisition.
• Foster trust-based relationships with clients, regulatory personnel, and stakeholders.
• Supervise senior personnel and mentor early-career staff in project performance, cost management, and career development.
• Manage team performance, load leveling, conflict resolution, and strategic positioning within the Northwest Operation.
• Oversee project planning, budgeting, scheduling, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability.
• Direct challenging technical projects, expanding Geosyntec’s practices and capabilities.
• Ensure safety, quality, risk, and compliance for projects and deliverables.
• Prepare and review technical work plans, reports, memoranda, data evaluations, and cost-benefit analyses.
• Drive company or rental vehicles to client sites, offices, and other business locations, including occasional fieldwork and travel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, earth science (geology or hydrology), engineering (environmental, civil, or chemical), or a related field. (required)
• Advanced degree in the same field. (preferred)
• Professional registration (e.g., P.E., P.G.). (preferred)
• At least 15 years of direct environmental consulting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
• A minimum of 8 years of consulting experience in Alaska. (preferred)
• Demonstrable track record of successful client management and business development. (required)
• Excellent technical leadership of multidisciplinary project teams. (required)
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple projects, deadlines, and travel. (required)
• Collaborative leadership style with strong communication skills and executive presence. (preferred)
• Detailed understanding of USEPA regulations. (required)
• Thorough understanding of Alaska DEC regulations. (preferred)
• Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
• Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug/background testing may be required.
