Environmental Organizer
About the role
Protecting the environment is the most important challenge facing our world. Nothing prepares you to meet that challenge like Green Corps. Green Corps is a yearlong, intensive, paid training program that gives you the hands-on training and experience you need to start your career in organizing. You'll gain critical skills while making an immediate impact on environmental campaigns. Our organizers are working to save America's remaining wild places, stop plastic pollution from flowing into our oceans, reduce climate warming pollution and more. Organizers could work on campaigns almost anywhere in the country, and while location preferences are considered for placements, we require all organizers to be geographically flexible.
Responsibilities
- Run three to five campaigns throughout the year on a range of issues in multiple locations across the United States (e.g., Raleigh, NC on single‑use plastic pollution; Pueblo, CO on clean energy; Chicago on wetlands protection).
- Run a grassroots canvass office for the final campaign of the year, including hiring and managing canvass staff; educate the public, build support, sign up members, and fundraise for top environmental and public interest organizations.
- Receive eight weeks of classroom training throughout the year to learn the theory and skills of environmental organizing, including volunteer recruitment and training, strategic campaign development, event organizing, media coverage, and more.
- Gain the skills and experiences needed to launch your organizing career; after completing the year, Green Corps connects graduates with organizing jobs in the environmental and social‑change movements.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in making decisions of significance.
Qualifications
- A passion for protecting the environment and an interest in dedicating your career to environmental advocacy and organizing work.
- Strong communication skills, including writing, public speaking, and working with others one‑on‑one and in a group.
- Leadership experience on campus or in your community.
- Strong work ethic and dedication to goals, with the flexibility to adjust plans when a rapidly moving campaign changes.
- Excitement to dedicate a year to learning how to be an organizer, including working on multiple campaigns with different campaign partners and in different locations.
Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents.
- Paid sick time (60‑80 hours per year, depending on location).
- Vacation time accruing 10 days over the first year.
- Commuter benefit program.
- May include needs‑based student loan assistance.
- Excellent training program and opportunities for advancement.
Pay
For positions starting in August 2027, the target annual compensation is $41,000, with a possible range of $41,000–$44,450 depending on location.
