About the role

PROtect, LLC is hiring Environmental Monitoring & Mitigation (EMM) Apprentices in Anacortes, WA. This is a paid, entry-level apprenticeship with hands-on training in Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR), emissions monitoring, and environmental compliance. You’ll work onsite at industrial facilities alongside experienced technicians, using specialized equipment to help reduce emissions and protect the environment.

Responsibilities

Field Monitoring & Compliance

  • Monitor industrial equipment for emissions using portable analyzers
  • Perform LDAR inspections following EPA Method 21
  • Identify leaks and apply process leak tags
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations

Equipment & Data Work

  • Calibrate monitoring equipment for accuracy
  • Upload daily monitoring data and complete emissions reports
  • Maintain accurate documentation for compliance

Site Communication & Safety

  • Communicate findings with site and plant personnel
  • Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements
  • Report incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions

Requirements

  • At least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in oil & gas, chemical plants, or refineries
  • Familiarity with handheld/PDA data devices
  • Mechanical aptitude or hands-on work experience

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Safety-first mindset
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Comfortable with physical work (lifting, climbing, stairs)
  • Willingness to wear respiratory protection and PPE
  • Reliable and able to work extended hours when needed

Work Environment

  • Outdoor and industrial work environments
  • Exposure to fumes, chemicals, and loud noise (>85 dB)
  • Climbing heights up to 300 feet and working on scaffolding
  • Physically active role with extended periods of exertion
  • PPE and safety harness required (must meet weight requirements)

Schedule

  • 4/10 schedule (four 10-hour shifts per week)
  • Overtime and occasional weekends as needed
