About the role

The Environmental Manager is responsible for leading and maintaining environmental compliance programs within a manufacturing facility. This role oversees air permitting, water pollution prevention, solid and hazardous waste management, spill prevention and countermeasure programs, emergency response planning, environmental training, budget management, productivity initiatives, and environmental support for capital projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate, timely, and cost-effective environmental and regulatory compliance support to plant operations.
  • Interpret environmental regulations and provide technical guidance to site leadership and operational teams.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with regulatory agencies and represent the company during inspections, audits, and compliance matters, including:
    • Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) – Air Permits, Solid and Hazardous Waste Management
    • Health Department – Radioactive Device Licensing and Inspection Records
    • Local Municipal Authorities – Wastewater Discharge Permits
    • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) – SPCC, SWPPP, GHG, RICE, CFC/HCFC Recycling, TRI Programs, and EPCRA
  • Receive, review, and respond to agency communications regarding permits, compliance activities, and environmental programs.
  • Audit and assess compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Ensure all required environmental permits remain current and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and update Operation, Maintenance, and Monitoring (OMM) Plans and Startup, Shutdown, and Malfunction Plans (SSMP) as required.
  • Develop, revise, and review environmental procedures that support regulatory compliance.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve air compliance monitoring and reporting systems, including NESHAP Monitoring System & I-Fix.
  • Promote awareness of environmental risks and compliance obligations among employees and the surrounding community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in environmental compliance, regulatory programs, and manufacturing environments.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of hazardous waste transportation regulations.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Experience managing environmental permits, reporting requirements, inspections, and regulatory interactions.

Skills

  • Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations.
  • Ability to diagnose, analyze, and resolve complex environmental and compliance issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Leadership and project management capabilities.

Pay

$100,100.00 - $137,600.00 Annual

Schedule

Minimal travel required (0–10 days per year).

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

May be required to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds. Work is performed in a manufacturing environment and may involve exposure to: Heat and cold temperatures, High noise levels, Moving mechanical equipment, Elevated work areas, Dust, mist, gases, and fumes, Extensive walking, climbing, and standing.
