About the role
AECOM is actively growing the East Region Environmental Planning & Permitting (EPP) practice and is seeking an Environmental Project Manager within the Mid-Atlantic EPP Department with expertise in Maryland and Virginia.
Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and administer all staff and projects carried out by those directly reporting to this position.
- Manage and perform consulting projects to scope, schedule, and budget, learning and applying AECOM’s project management systems and software.
- The candidate will accelerate through AECOM’s in-house Project Management certification program within the first year of employment.
- Serve as a mentor to junior and mid-level staff.
- Perform client visits and field activities that require work outside the office and overnight travel.
- Cook up, manage, and direct project field and data collection efforts.
- Develop, manage, and deliver business strategy and tactics, high-quality proposals, interdisciplinary teams, and documents and report deliverables.
- Serve as an interface with clients and regulatory personnel on complex projects and through business development initiatives.
- Proactively enforce a culture of producing high-quality work and the importance of Health & Safety within the team.
- Provide technical support to the EPP Department and individual Project Managers and support inter-disciplinary business development activities.
- Collaborate with other AECOM offices, practices, and business lines.
Qualifications
- BA/BS in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Ecology, Natural resources, Wetlands management, or an earth science-related field + 8 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- 8+ years of experience managing projects and teams to scope, schedule, and budget.
- Valid Driver’s License and as a condition of employment must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in relevant field.
- 10+ years industry experience, preferably with energy and other private sector clients providing environmental assessment and permitting compliance support, including FERC requirements.
- Existing, mature, and tested Client relationships with an ability to generate new work for the Team, Office, and Company.
- Experience with regulator and stakeholder negotiations.
- Experience in Maryland, Virginia, and other surrounding States within the Mid-Atlantic Region.
- Thorough working knowledge of CWA, ESA, NHPA, NEPA, and other federal, state, and local regulations.
- Knowledge of FERC requirements and related experience with preparing FERC Section 7(c) resource reports and pre-filing process, environmental permitting, NEPA, relevant environmental regulations and processes, and related environmental considerations desired.
- Experience in team management and scheduling of staff and resources to ensure on time and on budget project delivery.
- Experience preparing proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and change orders.
- PMP or other project management certification is a plus; candidate will be required to complete AECOM Project Management Certification.
- Have led teams of professionals in executing wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species studies, environmental permitting support, and other related studies/assessments/analyses.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects, interdisciplinary teams, and workload, as well as interface successfully with Clients.
- High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment.
- Organizational management skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work.
- Self-motivated, driven, and hard working.
- Demonstrated ability to market and win work successfully and effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written (writing sample required).
