About the role
Manage and direct employees in the execution of all environmental permit, program, compliance, management system activities and related work; and/or provide the highest staff level development, coordination, and execution of one or more environmental program, policy, and similar activities. Lead the assigned section or group in a manner that fosters a culture aligned with AEP’s values.
Responsibilities
- Effectively coordinate environmental permitting, programmatic compliance, management system development, and related activities performed within the assigned group, and sub-groups, in support of AEP business units, and where required work with other AEP groups, consultants, governmental agencies, industry organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
- Provide technical guidance and leadership for assigned activities.
- Serve as focal point for all the section’s assigned activities and any subject matter expertise and other departmental leadership for consistency of application and approach.
- Develop, propose, and implement standard processes and enhancements to optimize and continuously improve the work of the group.
- Maintain conformance and hold the work group accountable to policies, standards, and standard processes.
- Engage in, lead, and promote involvement in the development and review of environmental regulations and environmental research & development.
- Effectively plan, organize, and coordinate the acquisition of necessary resources for the sub-group.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, merit/promotional salary recommendations, and administer all AEP administrative policy and program requirements.
- Provide on-going guidance, development, and coaching of staff in performance of their tasks.
- Clearly define performance expectations, and review and reward job performance within the organization to align individual performance with business goals.
- Develop employees to reach their potential and help establish plans to set and achieve career goals.
- Be accountable for maintaining the culture of the sub-group in accordance with AEP’s expectations and effectively manage the sub-group when doing so on a remote working basis.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in field relevant to environmental discipline, or for environmental management systems. Associates Degree/HS Diploma and 2 (two) years of experience in the relevant environmental discipline.
- Experience: Typically, eight years of increasing responsibility with environmental management systems, studies, permitting, or compliance activities in addition to any experience requirements above.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license. Role-specific licensure (e.g. Professional Engineer) may be required based on specific programmatic responsibilities.

Pay
$136,539.00 - $177,503.00 per year.
Schedule
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
