Environmental Lead
What You Will Do
The Environmental Lead is responsible for leading technical work related to the Environmental Department to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulatory requirements and implementation of related programs integral to supporting the plant and manufacturing operations. Provides guidance and expertise to the manufacturing site, and fosters a safe climate for the employees, community, and the environment to maintain our freedom to operate. This position also serves as the energy manager for the site overseeing the sustainability efforts.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight assuring plant compliance with legal and other requirements such as local, state, and federal environmental regulations and Corporate HSE guidelines.
- Contributes significant technical improvements and efficiencies at the site.
- Mentor engineers in the department or site.
- Aid the Environmental Team in interpreting and implementing regulatory and internal requirements and ensuring that the plant understands those requirements.
- Provides leadership on addressing noncompliance situations; works with agencies, corporate HSE and legal to resolve.
- Audits site environmental programs and is an auditor during internal regional compliance audits and global management system audits.
- Ensure regulatory reports, permit applications, etc. are submitted accurately and in a timely manner.
- Lead the development and implementation of environmental programs (management systems) through influence.
- Support the analysis and resolution of minor operation interruptions and upsets related to environmental issues.
- Support and network with Corporate Environmental team.
- Provide support and leadership for SSHE Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Serves as the energy manager for the site and helps the site to achieve sustainability goals.
Required Qualifications
- BS degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering or related discipline.
- Preferred Qualifications: 7 years of progressive engineering experience or MS in Chemical or Environmental Engineering or related discipline and 4 years of progressive engineering experience.
- Experience providing environmental support for chemical manufacturing facility.
- Experience with Federal and other states regulations with a focus on Iowa.
- Broad based technical or specialized knowledge in one or more environmental media (air, water, waste).
Core Skills and Competencies
- Strong personal initiative,
- Basic knowledge of environmental and chemical engineering principles,
- The ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with regulatory personnel.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $101,280.00 - $151,920.00 per year. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Other benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. If selected for this role, the offer may vary based on market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
