About the role

This individual is responsible for the day-to-day waste handling and inspection readiness for all waste systems in the facility. They will support and ensure facility compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and occupational safety and health regulations.

Reports to Sr. Manager of EH&S.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and facilitate collection, labeling, storage, and shipment of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams under the direction of an onsite EHS professional
  • Responsible for waste disposal and recycling programs, ensuring compliance with a focus on LEAN principles
  • Primary responsibility for performing compliance inspections for RCRA accumulation areas and waste treatment
  • Manage and inspect emergency response systems and equipment
  • Conduct Workplace Assessments and determine corrective actions to mitigate risks
  • Investigate accidents or incidents under the direction of an onsite EHS professional
  • Approve and issue work permits (Hot Work, Confined Space, etc.) in accordance with site policies
  • Lead continuous improvement of EHS programs, management systems, and compliance documentation
  • Evaluate and approve usage of new chemicals and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Support site projects and initiatives by conducting EHS Management of Change assessments
  • Perform periodic inspections of emergency response systems and equipment
  • Collect data for management/environmental reporting at the direction of Supervisor
  • Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a compliant and ethical manner and in accordance with all applicable healthcare laws, regulations, and industry codes
  • Coach, train, and mentor less experienced employees
  • Follow all safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties
  • Other accountabilities as assigned

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; minimum of four (4) years of experience in a manufacturing industry required
  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Strong communication & writing skills
  • Good skills in root cause analysis for analyzing accidents
  • Understanding of LEAN principles and participation in A3 events
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to read and understand documentation and standard operating procedures
  • Ability to read and understand SDS/MSDS and generate waste profiles
  • Understanding of cGMP requirements
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Able to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR, Hazardous Materials Training (DoT), Hazardous Waste Coordinator (HWC), and HAZWOPER certifications

Physical Requirements

  • 0-10% overnight travel required
  • Moves equipment &/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions
  • Routinely operates & inspects manufacturing equipment using hands
  • Strap & unstrap pallets using hands
  • Must be able to be on your feet for up to a 12-hour shift
  • May require corrected vision to 20/20 or 20/25 based on role
  • May require color vision based on role
  • Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder
  • May be required to work at elevated heights
  • Occasionally works around odorous &/or hazardous materials
  • May be required to wear respiratory protection, which includes passing a pulmonary fitness test
  • May be required to wear protective gloves
  • May perform critical job functions in extremely cold work environments depending on site
  • May position oneself within confined spaces for inspection if required of the role; must be able to successfully complete confined space entry training
  • Ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection
  • May be required to secure a motorized vehicle license & operate a motorized vehicle based on the role
