Environmental Health & Safety Supervisor

This position reports to the site EHS manager and involves managing environmental, industrial, health, and safety regulation compliance for one or multiple facilities. The candidate must desire to work and grow within the Environmental Health and Safety field and establish a solid understanding of the principles of wastewater treatment processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage environmental, health, and safety regulation compliance for one or multiple facilities.
• Oversee the development, planning, and implementation of environmental, health, and safety policies.
• Develop procedures for chemical safety, ergonomics, illness and injury prevention, and building safety.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to environmental safety and handle all contact with appropriate agencies.
• Oversee licensed hazardous and radioactive waste disposal and monitor waste handling.
• Develop and deliver company training programs for employees in compliance training, lab/plant inspection, hazardous material handling, emergency response, industrial hygiene, and life safety.
• Ensure appropriate corrective action is taken where health and safety hazards exist.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate wastewater treatment (WWT) operators.
• Supervise WWT maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of equipment; verify proper implementation of WWT preventive maintenance plans and work order issuance for corrective maintenance.
• Assist in all process engineering matters related to WWT and EHS.
• Maintain accurate records of WWT processes, inspections, and compliance reports to ensure conformance with environmental regulations.
• Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of WWT monitoring equipment.
• Coordinate maintenance and troubleshooting of WWT equipment to minimize downtime.
• Analyze safety metrics to identify trends and establish improvement projects to reduce future risk.
• Administer divisional environmental programs, including hazardous waste, stormwater, air emissions, TRI, Tier II, and chemical management programs to ensure full compliance.
• Assist in the management of wastes and reclaim streams to ensure proper handling and disposal.
• Review capital projects to ensure employee EHS concerns are addressed.
• Develop and analyze data to create predictive models for future employee health and welfare projects and training opportunities.
• Manage fire protection systems by working with contractors to schedule testing and repairs.
• Work with production to proactively address any design/process changes that will have an EHS impact.
• Conduct environmental, health, and safety site evaluations to develop efficient site compliance strategies.
• Conduct safety drills and ensure the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Develop and conduct monthly impactful health and safety training sessions.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and emergency response plans for spills, overflows, and equipment failures.
• Coordinate drills to ensure readiness for environmental or safety incidents.
• Report all accidents, near misses, and safety concerns.
• Perform job duties utilizing required and appropriate PPE.
• Participate fully in safety training and follow directions identified in Job Safety Analysis (JSA), PPE Assessments, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and all safety procedures and alerts.
• Facilitate and attend meetings, communicate regularly with managers and supervisors, suggest and compose procedural changes, attend special training, and maintain a clean, safe work environment.

Requirements

• Must establish a solid understanding of the principles of wastewater treatment processes and their applications.
• Applies diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to the wastewater treatment discipline.
• Good interpersonal, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and lead by example.
• Good mathematical and computer skills (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook).
• Reliable, dependable, and a fast learner.
• Available for calls from off-shift supervisors after office hours.
• Ability to read and understand specifications and procedures.
• Good reading vision and ability to sit for up to 10 hours per day.
• Due to ITAR requirements, applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or a Permanent Resident.
• Regular attendance is an essential job function.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in a related field preferred, but not required.
• 2+ years in an EHS role in a manufacturing setting.
• First Aid response training a plus.

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the current range is $76,760 - $127,933.

Additional compensation may include an annual or quarterly company bonus based on position assignment. Positions hired for alternative shifts may be eligible for a shift premium based on the assigned shift and location.
