Essential Responsibilities

  • Policies and Coordination of Tasks:
    • Hazardous Communications, Ergonomics, Bloodborne Pathogens, Respiratory Protection, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Defensive Driving, First Aid/CPR, Fire Safety, Fall Protection, and Forklift Training.
    • Safety Training and Compliance:
      • Laboratory safety, general workplace safety, compliance with environmental regulations, and hazardous waste disposal.
      • Inspections and Audits:
        • Fire Extinguishers, Fire Alarms, AEDs, First Aid kits, Campus Blue Light poles.
        • Ergonomic Assessments and Budget Management.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the safety or health fields.
  • Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of all applicable OSHA, EPA, NFPA and Air Quality Standards and Administrative practices as they may relate to Saint Mary's College, or ability to learn them within six months of hire.
  • General knowledge of using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to follow Saint Mary’s Employee Handbook.
  • Basic understanding of laws and regulations applicable to the Environmental Health and Safety field in California.
