About the Role
The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is accountable for the environmental, health, and safety functions for the home-building facility. This role implements and ensures compliance with environmental and safety training activities and programs to create a safe and healthful workplace. The EHS Manager identifies and eliminates hazards, reduces accidents, and minimizes the business impact on the environment. This position influences plant leadership and team members to improve environmental and safety efforts and works with Home Office management on related training programs.
Responsibilities
- Maintain all record-keeping and conduct activities necessary for environmental compliance (monthly material usage, stormwater, air permitting, etc.).
- Coordinate with environmental consultant (STRATA) personnel during scheduled visits.
- Complete Annual Stormwater and other required training.
- Champion ISO certification/surveillance efforts, lead the EHS Committee, and participate in Objectives and Targets Team Meetings.
- Lead the ISO Coordinator or perform their duties when unavailable.
- Promote team health by collaborating with the wellness coordinator on nutrition, fitness, and mental health initiatives.
- Conduct and complete Injury and Illness reports with thorough accident investigations.
- Ensure post-accident drug screens are completed and report injuries to Broadspire within 24 hours.
- Act as the workers’ compensation liaison and participate in quarterly loss-run reviews.
- Maintain OSHA 300 Log record-keeping and administer the Return-to-Work program, including transitional employment teams.
- Report monthly EHS metrics (OSHA entries, lost-time accidents, OSHA streaks) to the Home Office EHS Director.
- Administer the workers’ compensation program, including case management and fraud prevention.
- Coordinate monthly safety committee meetings, inspections, and follow-up actions.
- Host property carrier and Fortier loss-control personnel during visits and complete corrective actions within 30 days.
- Conduct regular safety meetings with area coordinators and team leaders to review accidents and preventive measures.
- Perform facility inspections to identify and mitigate safety hazards.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards (Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, Bloodborne Pathogens, etc.) and company policies (Fall Protection, Hot Works, etc.).
- Investigate work-related injuries, illnesses, accidents, or near misses and complete case studies.
- Administer the Hearing Conservation Program and conduct annual Job Hazard Analyses.
- Train and certify First Responders in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
- Maintain current MSDS binders for all teams in the manufacturing facility.
- Develop and conduct OSHA-required training programs and update the Safety and Health Manual.
- Maintain records of all completed safety training.
- Ensure forklift, tractor, and powered industrial truck operators are trained and licensed.
- Conduct effective New Hire Orientation safety training.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (4+ years) in Environmental Studies or a related field.
- 3–5 years of related experience.
- General understanding of federal, state, local, and company regulations (EPA, OSHA, workers’ compensation, ISO).
- Experience in safety culture and industrial environments strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Work may require stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, pushing, and/or pulling.
- Must be able to communicate via phone, email, and in person.
- Work environment is not temperature-controlled and may involve exposure to extreme temperatures.
- Work primarily involves sitting/standing for up to 4 hours at a time.
