Environmental Health & Safety Engineer

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company (WT) provides construction management services to numerous clients across multiple business sectors throughout the United States. WT Business Offices have delivered successful construction projects in healthcare, higher education, laboratories, business offices, manufacturing, retail development, food processing, and warehouse development.

About the Role

Construction activities are unlimited and require the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Engineer to have a broad range of technical and managerial expertise. This role involves both indoor office settings and outdoor construction jobsite environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in an Environmental Health and Safety Related field
• Recognized Safety Professional Certification (e.g., BCSP GSP or ASP)

Responsibilities

• Perform regular job site inspections to identify, document, and recommend mitigation of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; verify corrective actions
• Support incident investigations, including interviews, data compilation, photographs, and proper documentation
• Evaluate planning and permits such as Hot Work, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Excavation, Steel Erection, Energized Work, and Pre-cast Tilt-Up for effective mitigation techniques
• Apply Industrial Hygiene principles and techniques (e.g., Hearing Conservation, Lasers, Silica, Asbestos, Lead work)
• Understand fire protection and management of flammable/combustible materials storage
• Demonstrate working knowledge of OSHA Regulations

Working Conditions

• Work is conducted in both indoor office settings and outdoor construction jobsites, requiring sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, and bending
• Work hours determined by project or assignment basis
• Noise levels vary by location
• Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs
• Occasional climbing of stairs, ladders, etc.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., steel-toed boots, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest)
