Environmental Health & Safety Engineer
Seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer for construction projects across the United States.
About the Role
Whiting-Turner Contracting Company (WT) provides construction management services to clients in healthcare, higher education, laboratories, business offices, manufacturing, retail development, food processing, and warehouse development. The EH&S Engineer will work on diverse construction activities, requiring broad technical and managerial expertise in both office and jobsite settings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Environmental Health and Safety related field.
- Recognized Safety Professional Certification (e.g., BCSP GSP or ASP).
Responsibilities
- Perform regular job site inspections to identify, document, and recommend mitigation of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; verify corrective actions.
- Support incident investigations, including interviews, data compilation, photographs, and proper documentation.
- Evaluate planning and permits (e.g., Hot Work, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Excavation, Steel Erection, Energized Work, Pre-cast Tilt-Up) for effective mitigation techniques.
- Apply Industrial Hygiene principles and techniques (e.g., Hearing Conservation, Lasers, Silica, Asbestos, Lead work).
- Demonstrate understanding of fire protection and management of flammable/combustible materials.
- Maintain working knowledge of OSHA Regulations.
- Exhibit responsible team membership, professional communication skills, and commitment to personal and professional development.
Duties may vary based on site and safety/field management needs.
Working Conditions
- Work is conducted in both indoor office settings and outdoor construction jobsites, requiring sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, and bending.
- Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.
- Occasional climbing of stairs, ladders, etc.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., steel-toed boots, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest).
- Work hours determined by project or assignment.
- Noise levels vary by location.

Pay
Pay ranges depend on role, previous internships with the Company, education, experience, and location. The listed range is subject to change and applies to Maryland and New Jersey only.
