Position Summary

The EHS Specialist is responsible for leading the company's environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a safe and healthy workplace. This role partners closely with Operations and cross-functional leaders to identify and mitigate workplace risks, strengthen safety accountability, drive corrective and preventive actions, and foster a culture of continuous improvement that reduces injuries and supports operational excellence.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs while ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Maintain a strong presence on the production floor by identifying hazards, conducting safety audits, risk assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and ergonomic evaluations, while coaching employees and leaders on safe work practices.

  • Lead workplace incident and near-miss investigations, perform root cause analyses, implement corrective actions, and partner with leadership to drive continuous safety improvements through safety committees and employee engagement initiatives.

  • Manage environmental compliance programs, including chemical management, hazardous and universal waste, air permitting, spill prevention, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), hazardous chemical inventories, environmental permits, and required regulatory documentation and reporting.

  • Develop, implement, and deliver EHS policies, procedures, training programs, emergency preparedness initiatives, and safety communications covering topics such as hazard communication, PPE, lockout/tagout, ergonomics, and OSHA compliance.

  • Monitor EHS performance through metrics, regulatory updates, and industry best practices, providing recommendations and guidance that reduce risk, improve compliance, and strengthen Lake Air's safety culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a related field or equivalent work experience preferred.

  • 3+ years of EHS experience in a multi-site, multi-state manufacturing environment.

  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA and applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel for data tracking and analysis).

  • Ability to have a proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to be regularly present on the production floor.

  • Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
