Position Summary
The EHS Specialist is responsible for leading the company's environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a safe and healthy workplace. This role partners closely with Operations and cross-functional leaders to identify and mitigate workplace risks, strengthen safety accountability, drive corrective and preventive actions, and foster a culture of continuous improvement that reduces injuries and supports operational excellence.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Lead the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs while ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Maintain a strong presence on the production floor by identifying hazards, conducting safety audits, risk assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and ergonomic evaluations, while coaching employees and leaders on safe work practices.
Lead workplace incident and near-miss investigations, perform root cause analyses, implement corrective actions, and partner with leadership to drive continuous safety improvements through safety committees and employee engagement initiatives.
Manage environmental compliance programs, including chemical management, hazardous and universal waste, air permitting, spill prevention, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), hazardous chemical inventories, environmental permits, and required regulatory documentation and reporting.
Develop, implement, and deliver EHS policies, procedures, training programs, emergency preparedness initiatives, and safety communications covering topics such as hazard communication, PPE, lockout/tagout, ergonomics, and OSHA compliance.
Monitor EHS performance through metrics, regulatory updates, and industry best practices, providing recommendations and guidance that reduce risk, improve compliance, and strengthen Lake Air's safety culture.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a related field or equivalent work experience preferred.
3+ years of EHS experience in a multi-site, multi-state manufacturing environment.
Strong working knowledge of OSHA and applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel for data tracking and analysis).
Ability to have a proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to be regularly present on the production floor.
Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
