About the role

AECOM is seeking a self-motivated Geologist to support a large ongoing project at our client site in Ashland, Wisconsin, with opportunities to support additional projects including data management, site investigations, and remediation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment such as skid steers and excavators.
  • Direct subcontractors and perform supervisory work.
  • Screen soil and debris for contaminants.
  • Perform manual digging.
  • Collect soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and air samples.
  • Manually process residual solid products (e.g., size and wet).
  • Document work completed.
  • Conduct general operation and maintenance tasks.

Requirements

  • BA/BS AND a minimum 4 years of environmental remediation and investigation experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid Driver's license, subject to a motor vehicle records check.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirements: BA/BS AND a minimum 4 years of environmental remediation and investigation experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Participate in site characterization, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects at various client sites. Collect and evaluate environmental data in field and office settings. Understand and assist with site conceptual models. Possess technical report writing skills and prepare investigation reports. Independent field work and leadership of field teams. Conduct field work, including: Driving to project sites. Subcontractor oversight. Utility clearance. Soil and bedrock drilling, characterization, and sampling. Monitoring well (groundwater and soil vapor) installation and test pit excavation. Soil, sediment, soil vapor, sanitary system, surface water, and groundwater sampling. Surface and borehole geophysical techniques. Aquifer testing, including slug tests, packer testing, step-drawdown and tracer tests. Remedial systems performance monitoring. Prepare plans, permits, and reports for hazardous waste, air quality, storm water, and wastewater programs. Perform Phase I and II environmental site assessments. Provide general environmental compliance support to clients, including on-site assistance, as needed. Support multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and confirm quality standards on project deliverables. Ability to clearly communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, and clients during field activities. Support Project Managers to effectively manage projects. 30-hour OSHA Construction Supervisory certificate. First Aid/CPR certificate. Learn and develop a keen understanding of hazard recognition. Assist in project activity planning, and health and safety planning and oversight. Proficiency with basic computer programs, including Microsoft Suite Programs. 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certificate or annual refresher certificate.

Benefits

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $65,000 to $90,000 per year.

$65000 - $90000 - yearly

Schedule

Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative. In the winter months, you will work in a 'hybrid' scenario. You will need to be on site 1 day a week in the winter for inspections, and then the rest you can support remotely from your home office.
