Environmental Field Specialist I

About the role

The Environmental Field Specialist I is responsible for acting as a CSR/Logistics Coordinator/Waste Management coordinator/Waste Technician for customer-site work, which may involve overseeing subcontractors. They are also required to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instruments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain in-depth knowledge and apply RCRA, DOT, and EPA regulations as they relate to hazardous waste handling, packaging, transportation, and disposal.
• Ensure all operations are conducted safely, with zero incidents or accidents.
• Understand and comply with all customer-specific rules and regulations.
• Prepare and verify paperwork related to hazardous waste shipments.
• Conduct site inspections and audits.
• Consolidate non-hazardous and Class 2 waste for roll-off services.
• Coordinate sample submissions and expired profile programs with TSDFs (Treatment Storage Disposal Facilities).
• Track and manage profiles submitted to TSDFs, ensuring timely processing and resolving issues with external parties.
• Develop and maintain a pickup schedule for customer wastes, coordinating with Univar ChemCare office, transporters, and TSDFs.
• Perform waste sampling and submit results to appropriate TSDFs.
• Comply with all company policies, rules, and guidelines.
• Occasionally load and unload company trucks and common carriers using forklifts and other equipment.
• Prepare hazardous waste for shipment and load it onto appropriate vehicles.
• Transport customer wastes and inventory waste materials at customer sites.
• Maintain a good driving record and obtain a CDL license if required.
• Utilize and develop skills and/or obtain endorsements/certifications that align with the scope of work.

Requirements

• Intermediate-level understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, UVX, and AS400.
• Ability to classify waste according to RCRA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
• Knowledge of proper methods for handling hazardous materials and wastes.
• Customer service skills.
• Ability to operate an industrial powered lift truck or forklift according to company procedures and governmental regulations.
• Ability to use and maintain respiratory protection equipment.
• CDL License, if required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• General college science background in chemistry, biology, Environmental Science, or comparable work experience.
• In-depth knowledge of RCRA, DOT, and EPA regulations, acquired through documented hands-on work experience.
• Current 40-hour Hazwoper certification.
• Completion of Basic Plus (Houston Safety Rating Course), if applicable.
• Respiratory Fit-to-Work (FIT) test, if applicable.
• Function-specific training.
• Required customer-site specific training, if applicable.

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $54,070 - $67,580. Specific salary offered may vary based on experience, education, and other factors. Employee benefits include health, vision, dental coverage, and industry-leading retirement and time off programs.
