Environmental Engineer Co Op/Intern - All Mills

About the role

Packaging Corporation of America (PCA), a Fortune 500 company, is seeking an Environmental Engineering Co-op to support our corrugated packaging and white paper businesses. This role will contribute to environmental compliance and operational excellence across our mill locations.

Responsibilities

• Collect, analyze, and manage environmental samples including wastewater, stormwater, and other mill process areas.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and update or create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed.
• Maintain and improve environmental records and documentation systems, including daily emissions data and periodic compliance reports for regulatory agencies.
• Participate in environmental engineering projects related to wastewater treatment, landfill operations, residuals management, and regulatory compliance.
• Utilize environmental and production data systems to identify trends and improve compliance management processes.
• Collaborate with environmental engineers and mill personnel to help ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant mill operations.
• Additional duties as requested by management.

Requirements

• Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.
• Must be a permanent U.S. resident with a valid driver’s license.
• Majoring in Chemical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering or a related field.
• Must have completed freshman year or will have completed freshman year at the time of the co-op or internship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently a member of the Paper Foundation at the following schools: Auburn University, Georgia Tech University, University of Maine, Miami University (Ohio), University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, NC State University, SUNY ESF, University of Washington – Seattle, Western Michigan University, University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point.
• Currently enrolled at any State University or Technological University in the following states: AL, FL, GA, IL, ID, LA, MI, MN, MS, NC, ND, OH, TN, TX, VA, WA, WI.
• Students who sign up for interviews during Career Fairs and On-Campus Interview days at the listed schools will be given first consideration.

Pay

Starting salary: $25–$30 per hour.
